Child Supervision Guidance
We are so excited to welcome you and your student to Kindergarten!
Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten:
Time and patience can help your child develop a strong sense of self-worth and confidence. Exposure to the following will benefit children beginning Kindergarten:
Good Health Habits Have a set time for bed. Brush teeth regularly Cover mouth when sneezing or coughing Use a Kleenex appropriately Wash hands before eating Independent toileting
Encourage Physical Abilities Be able to balance and jump Be able to skip, march and hop Be able to throw and catch a ball Be able to cut, paste, use a pencil and manipulate objects
Kindergarten Readiness
Many kindergarten children may already be doing these tasks independently:
Writing his/her names beginning with capital letters Counting to 20 Reciting the alphabet Naming basic colors Washing hands properly Tying shoes Zipping or buttoning jacket and pants
During the kindergarten year children will learn:
Social Skills Being kind to others Problem solving skills Listening and speaking skills Comprehension and Qquestioning Alphabet recognition/sounds Reading habits and concepts of print Phonemic awareness Rhyming words Writing skills Number operations Patterns, relations and functions Geometry and measurement Citizenship and culture Personal and mental health Family life and structure Technology skills
