The art program at Patrick Henry Elementary offers two-dimensional and three-dimensional art experiences in multi-media areas (drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, collage, crafts, and sculpture). Art vocabulary and concepts are introduced with each art lesson (line, shape, color, value, texture, pattern, detail, proportion, perspective, design and composition).

The art appreciation curriculum introduces European artists, American artists, and ancient civilizations. Students learn how to critiques art by telling what they see and feel, evaluating the elements of art that are present and making a personal judgment about the art work.

III. DEVELOP A KNOWLEDGE OF ART HERITAGE

IV. UTILIZE CRITICAL JUDGMENT OF THE VISUAL ARTS
…refers to recognition of differences, evaluation, analysis, comparison, appraisal, discrimination and wisdom in artistic choices.
